Edwin Wong
Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Wong founded SSG Capital Management in 2009 and serves as its Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer. SSG makes Special Situations and private debt investments with currently more than $4 billion of assets under management. The firm invests across Asia-Pacific with a focus on China, India and South-East Asia.
Mr. Wong is in-charge of all investment activities, as well as overseeing strategic matters and operations of the group. Mr. Wong has over twenty years of Special Situations experience and, since 1998, he has been instrumental in the acquisition of billions of dollars of distressed assets across Asia. He has also led numerous restructuring situations and served on many creditor steering committees.
Prior to SSG, Mr. Wong was a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers in Hong Kong and the co-founder of its Asia Special Situations Group. In addition, he headed the firm's credit businesses for Asia-Pacific excluding Japan, including High Grade, High Yield and Leveraged Finance. Mr. Wong started his career at Coopers and Lybrand, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994, and at JP Morgan Securities Asia in Hong Kong.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Manchester Business School and the University of Wales. Mr. Wong was born in Hong Kong and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
